Browser extension
The free Stackly extension for Chrome makes a short link for the page you're looking at, without opening Stackly. It's handy when you want to share a product page on WhatsApp quickly.
Install it
- Open the Stackly extension on the Chrome Web Store. You can also click Get the extension in the Stackly left menu.
- Click Add to Chrome, then Add extension.
- Click the puzzle icon in Chrome's toolbar and pin Stackly - URL Shortener so it's always in view.
- Click the Stackly icon in the toolbar.
- Click Login.
- Enter your Email address and Password, then click Sign In.
When you're signed in, your links are saved to your Stackly account, so you can see their clicks.
Shorten the current tab
- Go to the page you want to share.
- Click the Stackly icon. The page address shows under Current URL.
- If you're signed in, you can type a Link Title (optional).
- Click Shorten URL.
Two quicker ways:
- Press Alt + Shift + S.
- Right-click the page, or any link on it, and choose Shorten with Stackly.
A tick on the Stackly icon means it worked. Open the extension to see the link.
Copy the link or show a QR code
- After shortening, click Copy to copy the short link.
- Click QR to show a QR code that people can scan. Click Hide QR to close it.
- Click Open to test the link in a new tab, or Shorten another URL to start again.
Your latest links are listed under Recent Links. Click Clear to empty the list.
Good to know
- The extension is free and works without signing in. Links made without signing in stop working after 24 hours.
- It can't shorten Chrome's own pages, such as settings or the new tab page.
- Recent Links is kept only in this browser.
Troubleshooting
- "This page can't be shortened by Stackly." → You're on a Chrome page or a file on your computer. Open a normal website.
- A red mark on the Stackly icon → The shortcut or right-click didn't work. Open the extension and click Shorten URL instead.
