UTM builder and templates
UTM tags are small labels added to the end of a link. They tell Google Analytics (and other tools) where a visitor came from. Stackly lets you save them as templates and add them to any short link in one click.
What the tags mean
| Tag | What it says | Example |
|---|---|---|
Source (utm_source) | Which site or app sent the visitor | instagram, google, newsletter |
Medium (utm_medium) | What kind of traffic it is | social, cpc, email |
Campaign (utm_campaign) | Which offer or launch it belongs to | diwali_sale_2026 |
Term (utm_term) | The paid search keyword | running+shoes |
Content (utm_content) | Which ad or link version | banner_v2 |
Referral (utm_ref) | A partner or referrer id | partner_portal |
A yoga studio that tags its Instagram bio link with utm_source=instagram can later see in Google Analytics exactly how many bookings came from Instagram.
Create a UTM template Starter+
- In the left menu, under Grow, click UTM Builder.
- Click New template. To start from a common setup, click Presets, pick one and change what you need.
- Under Template, enter a Name (for example "Instagram paid") and, if you like, a Description.
- Under Tags, fill in Source (required), then Medium and Campaign. Term, Content and Referral are optional.
- Check the Preview. Paste a page into Try it on a URL to see the full tagged link, then click Copy tags or Copy URL if you need it now.
- Click Create template.
Templates are shared across your workspace, so everyone on your team picks the same names.
Use lowercase and underscores. Google Analytics treats Facebook and facebook as two different sources.
Use a template on a link
- Create a link as usual and enter the destination.
- Open UTM tracking and click Choose a template or add UTM tags.
- In Load Saved Preset Template, pick your template. The tags fill in for you.
- Change any tag if needed, then click Apply Parameters.
You can also type tags here without a template. Source, Medium and Campaign are required in this window.
Edit or delete a template
- Open UTM Builder.
- On the template card, click the pencil to edit, then Save changes. Or click the bin icon to delete it and confirm.
The copy icon on a card copies just the tags (the part starting ?utm_).

Anyone can browse ready-made tag setups at stackly.in/utm-templates, with no account. It covers Meta Ads, Google Ads, Instagram creators, WhatsApp, email newsletters, YouTube, LinkedIn, QR codes on print, and SMS. Each page lets you paste your page under Landing page and copy the tagged link.
Good to know
- Saving templates and adding UTM tags to links needs Starter or above. On Free, the menu shows a Starter badge. You can try the builder and browse presets, but the save button reads Upgrade to save.
- Each template name must be unique in your workspace.
- Campaigns add these tags for you, one link per channel.
